I Can't Sleep With These &^#$& Lights

My new computer has a case with an exhaust fan that has blue lights on it. It looks cool and all but at night it practically lights up my whole room and there's no switch to turn it off. If I just take some pliers or something and crush the lightbulb it wouldn't affect the fan itself would it?

which are the fans wires...

edit:
I also don't think you can get to the leds as I think the in the fan's frame.

Just replace the fan or 5v/7v mod it so you can have dimmer led's and a quieter fan.

Yeah it turns out the bulbs are protected from my pliers by the plastic so I can't get to them.

Would any color nail polish work or only black?

Pull the fan from the case. You will see the LEDs inserted into holes in the frame and held in place with some hot glue. Pop the hit glue off and trace the wires back as close to the motor as possible and then cut it there. No more LEDs.

Yup, you may be able to get to the LED wires back by the motor - may have to lift the label to get to them. Any dark color nail polish should block the light a lot.

Black works nice. Red is also good.

If its still bright, just apply coats. :p

becareful if you snip the leds. I broke a fan doing that.

1) snip LEDs
2) plug in fan
3) fan doesn't work
4) buy quieter, non-LED fan (which is probably a better idea anyway)

Find someone with a non LED case fan who'd prefer an LED one and swap!
Have to admit I just took out a non-LED one for an LED one.

I want to be rid of these LED fans of mine. I have three (four LEDs each) lol...and for some reason I can sleep with my computer on.

I used a sharpie to black out the bulb and then covered it with a layer of nail polish. It's a lot dimmer now. Thanks

heh nail polish works the best.

if you want it darker, wait for it to dry and just apply coats.

Oh i should warn you, there is a chance you might burn out the LED.
Fan will work, but you'll burn that LED out.
But i dont think you'd really care about that.

Yeah, I was going to suggest that. ;) With the savings on your Electricity bill, you could buy new non-LED fans. ;)
