I can't see what I'm installing

I was trying to install XP on this system. The BIOS startup screen comes up, with the CD set as the initial boot. It goes to the "Boot from CD:" screen, I can hear the CD drive whirring, and then nothing comes on the screen. I have tried it several times, with no idea how to fix this. Can someone help?
