I CAN'T POST LONG MESSAGES OR FILL LONG ONLINE FORMS !!
Oh yeah, I already posted that in the off topic forrum but some childish persons made it locked because they were saying stupid remarks. ;)
I HAVE A PROBLEM THAT PISSES ME OFF !
Everytime I try to fill an online form (for a job as an example) I can't finish the operation ! It always gives me the message after 40 seconds "page not found" !?
Even here at anandtech, when I write long messages, I can't send them ! I must cut them into smaller pieces !
It is really strange. I have ADSL 1 megabit connection and use raspppoe to dialup.
Help !!!
THor !

Don't know whats wrong, but may have a short term solution.
Write your reply in wordpad and then cut and paste.

You can't submit? As in upstream internet problem maybe? Because it's such a weird thing, it happening for you in multiple OS's must mean there's an outside cause. Does your computer crash often? Maybe hardware then. Or do always change settings in IE to be something other than the default? Change them back, don't know what would do that though.

If anything have your ASDL company come out and take a look. If its an internet connection problem, they are probably best suited to help you. If it IS a problem with their service, you could probably make them give you a credit for all the time you've lost because of it :)

Humm... It is like the data is unable to pass when the data quantity is too large. It seems like if a too big packet can't pass. Like if there was a limit of the packet size wich is normal to be limited ! :) ?!

Oh well... I'll try playing with settings ! Hehe

Well, we should get a little more scientific.

Thor_Sevan, test if it's your connection by doing pings. Tons of the damn things. At least 50, go ahead and ping the forums server since we know there's something there. Then use bigger/small packets for pings (30-50 in sets). It's in the help dialog. If you have a problem causing a small percentage of traffic not to go through, 4 pings probably aint ebough.

Then try uploading some large and small files to a server. Lots, to be sure. Hopefully you can find a good FTP server to use? Or if you are hot with telnet you could use ZModem.

If you encounter problems, let us know. Also, try eliminating problems in your LAN. Maybe you just have a single ethernet cable going to the ADSL modem, maybe you have a router, swtiches, hubs, whatever. THen you have more cables to check! It's terribly fun (not).

It sounds to me like it's as simple as his pc not liking the Ad Server for some reason. When the ad server AT uses is getting hammered, I get the same thing. It loads AT's page, but immedialy gives me a "page not found" error when the ad doesn't display (rather then showing a broken image). Try installing WebWasher (webwasher.com, its free) and browsing. It will block all ads from loading, so if a certain ad server is giving you problems, it will stop that.

You mentioned you are using PPPoE. That's the reason. PPPoE demands a particular MaxMTU size. I can't remember it offhand, but I know it's different (smaller) than regular Ethernet. Tell you what, why don't you set your MaxMTU to 576 to be safe, and try that. I think your problems will be solved.

I hate to break it to you but MTU or max packet size has absolutely nothing to do with this problem you are having.

It doesn't matter how much information you type on your screen. The data can still be broken into multiple packets to allow the info to be transmitted from one pc to another.

The problem sounds like something in your IE settings or in your registry.

I'm pretty sure it's MaxMTU. That's how I solved a similar problem when I got PPPoE DSL.

Can't remember offhand how to change it, but www.speedguide.net should have some resources.
