Whenever I try to play an audio cd in WMP (either from the cd-rom or the cd-rw), I get "File not found".
RealOne even tells me that there's no cd inserted although the CD icon in my computer changes to an audio cd.
I had the Teac cd-rw in my other pc and everything was ok.
HELP !!!!!

Specs:
Board: Intel D850EMV2
CD-Rom: Teac CD-540E
CD-RW: Teac CD-W524E
OS: WinXP Pro

Does it happen with ALL CDs? Have you tried a really old disc? Might be copy protection on newer discs interfereing with the drive being able to read the audio.

I tried old CDs, new CDs, CDs I burned,.... nothing works, I still get the same error.
I'm sure all the CDs are ok because they play on other PCs.

I'm pretty sure both drives are ok. As I told you already, the cds played fine in the same cd-rw when it was in my previous PC.

If you don't have the digital cable attached make sure you don't have 'Enable digital audio for this etc... ' checked off. If it is that can cause this kind of issue. I think there may also be an ATAPI update for that board you are using.
Can it read data CDs?

good luck

Try running the stock cd player that is built into windows. Start, programs, accessories, entertainment, cd player, (in win98 and win2k anyways) and see it if is displaying that there is a music cd inserted, and if it is, will it play.

I'm wondering if your file associations aren't goofed up some how. Or maybe the programs are looking for a specific drive letter for the cdrom.

I unchecked "Enable digital audio....", still the same result. The drive is capable of reading data cds, it's one the best drives available. There is no update for my OS.

I don't have the stock cd player, I think they replaced with WMP. The .cda are associated with WMP9, and the drives are D: and E: (CD-rom and cd-rw respectively)

I just found out that I can still rip an audio cd. I have just ripped some tracks with audiograbber and encoded them to mp3, they played flawlessly.

Its the drive or your controller. I have a Sony that does the same thing...burns great copies, but fails to open many CD's for no apparent reason. Some work, some don't. They work fine in my other drives.

Try doing a search for the file 'cdplayer.exe'. If it's there, double click on it, and see if it can read and play a music cd.

Both drives are great at reading all kinds of cds except they just can't play the audio cd. What really surprises me is that audiograbber can still read the audio and save them on the HD, I don't want to do that every time I want to listen to an audio cd.

cdplayer.exe returned 0 results. I got the prog from a win98 machine and when I insert an audio cd, the message "please insert an audio cd" remains there.

Have you checked to see what program is associated with CDA files? Maybe your associations got messed up somehow. Also have you tried another program like WinAmp? How about your sound drivers maybe you are missing a codec? If audiograbber can read the files and the OS sees it as an AudioCD than I doubt the drive is your problem I'd look for screwed up software somewhere along the line. Which WMP version are you using?

As I mentioned a few posts above, .cda are associated with WMP 9 (final, all updates installed). I tried real player and it gave me "no audio cd inserted". I have the latest drivers for my soundcard.
