Son and I switched over to our new computer for most gaming.

Problem: Now in Quake 3, we cannot slide sideways...yes, we did set it up within Q3 correctly...

The new rig is an Abit IT7 MB, 1.8 cpu, nVidia 4400, 512 ram, Win XP Pro, with MS keyboard with adapter to a USB port... is this the problem, and how to rectify...( this MB has USB and FW ports only)...

Delete the file q3config.cfg in the baseq3 dir (in your Quake 3 directory) and restart the game.
 
I'm assuming you're refering to Strafe or SideStep. Do you use the mouse or keyboard for this function? Have you tried changing between the two and then setting it back? Have you tried alternate keys for the keyboard?
