i give up guys. i dont know how people uses their touchpad/ipad, but i just cant live without ports! for once i want to view files from usb flash drive, easily read SD/microSD cards and i cant. would be nice if i can watch movies on the 60inch via HDMI but i cant, im stuck with a pathetic 10incher with stereo sound.

so i will be selling these tablets on ebay over the weekend. time to gather some cash as the Transformer2 is closer to reality. who's with me??!!

I don't own an iPad, but I could see wanting at least a USB port. I could probably live without the SD slot since with USB I could hook up an adapter.

As for HDMI, I personally don't get the desire to watch content off a tablet on a 60" monitor. There may be times where that function might come in handy, but at home my HDTV is already hooked up to way more powerful devices. Why would I want my tablet or phone hooked up to it beyond just once for the sheer "Gee, that's kind of neat" aspect of it, but then never again.

I sold my Touchpad on eBay and haven't gotten paid yet. Bastard. But yes, I have not been able to really do anything with it...no ports, WebOS is suckish after continually using it, and I don't feel like dealing with Android problems more than it already has on devices made for it.

Touchpad is fine. Why would I want to fucking watch on a TV? If I did, I would walk over to my TV and flip it on. Oh I want to stream content to my TV? Well can my TouchPad play 1080p MKV files without stuttering? I doubt it. Can my Android phone? No. So I would need a workhorse like my MacBook Pro to do it anyway, so why not just hook your damn laptop up?

So if I'm a passenger on a bus/in a car and have nothing but an external HDD....then?

If you are using an external HD then you are doing it wrong.
Put everything on a NAS and/or in the cloud and you are set.

Instand access to everything - no wires or ports needed.

The target audience of Apple probably wouldn't know what to plug into which port anyways - "It's so confusing!!! I just wanna point and click!"

Hence the introduction of iCloud.

Take a photo on my iPhone and it (almost) instantly appears on my iPad.
Get home and it is already downloaded into iPhoto.

No ports needed.

Except that you need to pay for the internet data traffic, be limited by the connection availability/speed, limited online storage, no expandable local storage, and basically play by whatever rules Apple tells you.

Or, I can just use any industry-standard USB cable or removable SD card or wireless Bluetooth file transfer and not give a sh!t about Apple's proprietary rules and limitations.

i do have laptops with HDMI but the point of getting a tablet was to get rid of the laptop.
when im in a hotel, it would be nice if i can pump mkv movies onto a bigger screen.

cant stream from the cloud if i'm in the middle of nowhere (travel a lot). i dont know why people just assume they can stream anything. until the earth is saturated with wifi/free satellite internet, i dont see how streaming is possible unless they sit at home all day.

well unless you have bought the keyboard dock you can't do a lot of the that with the transformer, the tablet on its own only comes with micro SD and USB, so... you need a accessorie, you can do the same with a ipad, if you buy a accessorie

My Android phone can. Now that I learned how to use ext2 microSD cards in it I was able to test my largest 1080p mkvs last night. My SGS2 played each one flawlessly in full 1080p via HDMI on my TV.

Now whenever I go to hotels I can just take my phone, a few cables, and a few MicroSD cards filled with content to entertain my wife and myself. Before I used to drag around an ION netbook just to do the job, and before that I would carry around a Macbook. The less I have to drag on trips the better.

Huh?

I get data everywhere I go and it works fast.

So you're vacationing somewhere in a place that has no Wifi. You have a hard drive with all your movies on it and an iPad. What do you do?

Oh that's right, nothing.

So every area has 3G at all times, and all tablets have 3G, correct?

Put down your fanboyism, and face the facts: some people actually use their tablet as more than a fashion statement, so those people generally don't go for the iPad.

I travel quite a bit and have never ran into a problem of not having cellular reception or access to WiFi.

Simply telling you that I *can* live without ports as they are not needed if you do things right.

Apple makes an adapter with hdmi out. You can get pretty much any file onto an ipad if you try. Honestly ive never felt that limited by the lack of ports.

I hear you OP, I also need those ports and so I'll be getting the Transformer 2. I'm actually gonna take it a step further and sell my beloved laptop (MacBook Pro) and try a tablet/phone combo as my only devices. Android has just about everything covered now that I would need, so this will be an interesting experiment.
