Actually, I can't install a pair of these ati 8500s that I picked up. One for each of my computers but on one system it won't boot and on the other the video signal drops in and out
system#1
asus cuv4x
celery 800
d740x 40GB
sblive
256ram
cdrom
300watt generic psu
originally in there was a radeon 7000, so i pop it out and put in the new 8500, I power it on and I get 1 long 3 short beep codes. No videocard or unseated? So i try pushing as hard as I can, no dice. same thing everytime I power on. So I try it in my other system in case the card was dead.
System2
abit vh6t
pIII-s 1.4ghz
512 ram
sblive
10gb drive
cdrom
400watt antec psu
So into this it goes, the 8500 is supposed to upgrade the voodoo3pci in there. So I take the voodoo out and pop in the card, no signal. Ok so i pop the voodoo back in along with the 8500 and leave the monitor plugged into the voodoo. It boots up and windows detects the 8500, phew, so the card ain't dead afterall. The drivers install. I shutdown and unplug the voodoo. plug monitor into the monitor, no signal? I hear the 1 beep so ok it is booting properly, after some waiting the monitor gets a signal and the screen comes up. So I got into the bios and the display just disappears and comes back, disappears, then comes back. What's going on? I've tried both cards and both of them behave the same in both systems. I've tried clearing the bios before installing the cards, no go. Are these things really power hungrY? Could it be the psu? Help me out! I finally could afford some decent cards for my system and they won't install! I would think this is pretty easy to install as i've been able to put 2gether 3 complete systems already. Is there something simple that i'm forgetting to do?
ok, 1 more thing I forgot to mention. on system2 with the monitor plugged in the screen is black and the power light is off even when the monitor is turned on. Usually if there is no signal the light would be blinking right? But with the cards it just stays off. Hmmmm.
