Ok here goes. I was running a 2500+ barton at 2ghz stable. Now I bought a 2600 moble because of all the overhead its supposed to have for overclocking. For some reason I cant get past 2.2ghz 200*11 @ 1.575 without getting errors in prime. Here's the thing, my temps. Even at this voltage im running at about 47 idle and 61 under load. What the hell! I've tried everything, upping the voltage, multiplyer/FSB combinations etc. With these temps I can't even up the voltage passed 1.675 without getting a overheat shutdown. Any suggestions?

Shuttle AN35N Ultra
AMD Anthlon XP-M 2600+ (artic silver 3)
[EDIT: CoolerMaster Aero 7+]
Geil 2x512 3200 DDR value ram
Antec 500w PSU

Maybe I need a new heat sink? I mean everyone else is getting at least 2.4 on this thing! And I've yet to hear of an overclocker hitting 60c on this CPU.

What happens when you try a lower FSB with a higher multiplier, like say 185x12.5 = 2.3Ghz?

My 8RDA board doesn't like the higher FSB settings, and I'm running my 2600+M at 190x12.5 = 2.35Ghz.

AS5? Better HS or lap the base? Good airflow in case?

It's gotta be a temp problem but:
Are you trying to increase the FSB, or going for Multis?
Try one stick of RAM for testing. If increasing the FSB, did you loosen the timings on the RAM and bump the VDimm?
If you can, check the power supply. Never know.

Edit: tried seeing how low can you go with the vcore?

185*12.5 @ 1.6 works but prime didn't like it after about 10min. Im wondering how good is my heatsink?

I've tried getting it stable at 2.3 by multiplyer and by FSB. I just cant get it stable I uped the v-core to 1.675 but reaching temps of about 62 while testing. My tried playing with my timings, and I dont think its airflow. Right now MBM reads "case 42 cpu 53" (200x11 @ 1.575) and im just online! I really dont get it. This CPU isn't supposed to be running this hot.

Don't trust your mobo-reported temps absolutely, sensors differ quite a bit. But in this case it very well might be a good idea to get a new HSF. Another thing, just because a CPU is generally a good overclocker doesn't mean every CPU will do as well. Manufacturing isn't perfect, and some chips just can't OC as far as others.

i had a problem like this with my barton but it may still apply. make sure you have mounted the HS on the CPU correctly and make sure you use a VERY small ammount of thermal paste.(see picture in the instructions) I had mounted mine with too much and my temps were way too high.

These instrucitons should work for any thermal paste you use....

Good Luck...

Thanks BroeBo, I opened up the case and removed some artic silver. I left a VERY thin layer. I also brought down the vcore to 1.5. My temps are now at 45c. Good improvement. Maybe a new heatsink will let me hit 2.4 without a problem.
