I'm having problems getting X window to work in a couple of Linux distros. Mandrake 7.1 completely crashes when the installer gets to configuring X. The screen becomes completely scrambled. Everything else works, I just can't get to the GUI. I then tried XFdrake from the command line and every screen resolution it presents results in a scrambled screen. This really surprised me since 7.0 worked perfectly. Then I decided to experiment with Debian 2.2 and it won't even install X. It goes through the OS install and says there are so many errors that it's going to quit and let me install whatever wasn't installed on my own. Well, I guess X was one of those things that wasn't installed. I tried XF86Setup and it won't let me setup any video properties because it says there's no XF86Config file, which there isn't. This really sucks since I don't really know the command line. Anyone know what's going on?
P.S. The error message Debian gives me when I type "startx" is "X11TransSocketUNIXConnect" and it says that is error number 111.
