Ever since i formatted my Harddrive last week, I installed several OS's like Win XP,98,Me .

Every now and then, when i reset my computer i get no sound; Nothing!!!
I reset it again and the soundcard works - there is sound!

The reason i formatted is because i screwed up my OS (Win Me) after i installed an old 1MB PCI Videocard.
I had this problem with Win ME, 98FS and XP.

Could it be that i have damaged my Motherboard/Soundcard?

System specs is in my sig.

HELP!!!

hmm, that sucks. So I'm assuming you have onboard sound, right?

If that's the case, maybe try going to the ASUS website and download the newest drivers for your onboard sound.

Thank you for your reply, MasterHoss!

It is not O/B sound. It's a PCI card with a creative chip in it.

Win Me will not let me install any drivers; it recognizes it by itself.

BTW : I changed the location of the card from PCI 6 to PCI 4. Same thing, the problem is still there.

Anyone else?

DOH!!! the Asus P3V4X mobo does not have any onboard sound that I am aware of...what type, make, model of soundcard are you using?

Are you doing a clean reinstall?

Need more info to help...
