I cant get my mouse to work under redhat linux 6.1

ahhh... I put together a system from old parts to run linux on, and now that everything is installed, I cannot get the mouse to work!

grrr...

what do I need to do? I've been mucking around for about 3-4 hours
 
"mouseconfig" might help. What kind of mouse you have? Doesn't it work with X or console or at all? If it's USB, I doubt that it works with as old distro as RH 6.1 at all...
