hi all! a strange thing here, the system was working fine but i bought a new pc case box tower what ever you want to call it but all i wanted to do was to upgrade my case as i see this nice new one so i transfered every thing over to the new case exactly as it was in the old case i.e 2x hard drives and 2 x rom drives (burner + reader) now bear in mind all this worked before i swapped cases now the rom drive is not detected in windows, in the bios it is showing up as 19 digits and not the actual drive like the name of the burner does, the drives are on the exact same ide's as before ie burner + backup hd on ide 2 burner master hd slave, on ide 1 the hd with the os on it is master and the rom drive is slave, but the rom drive for some reason is not recognized, now if i hook up the same rom drive to ide 2 in place of the burner it is recognized strait away but as soon as i put it on the same ide as the os it is not seen, i have swapped jumpers from slave to master i have tried different ide cables but what ever i do if i connect a rom drive to the same ide as the hd with the os on it, the rom drive is not found in the bios and in windows, now have i missed something some where, thanks in advance for any replies

you might want to check the power cable from the PSU...

i have encountered a similar problem in the past... as it turns out the +5V line from the power connector wasn't functioning properly and the drive gives out a garbled reading from BIOS...

I seem to be having a somewhat similar problem...

my bios sometimes won't detect my second secondary master drive which is a toshiba dvd-rom, but it detects the secondary slave which is my liteon burner no problem

when the computer boots up the dvd-rom drive's access light is constantly blinking, and the bios waits for a long time trying to detect the drive, but eventually fails...

I have both optical drives set on cable select on channel 2
and my 1 hard disk as single on channel 1

I'm thinking perhaps its the PSU as dimzie suggested, or my dvd-rom drive is burnt out...

if it is the psu, must i replace the psu or just unplug some devices/fans ?
