I have pc3200 ddr 400, but most of the motherboards at newegg go only up to ddr 333. can mine work with these boards? and even if it does work, isnt it a waste of my memory since the boards can only go up to ddr 333?

is the main part of the memory the ddr speed like the ddr 333 or ddr 400?

Yes it works perfect, makes overclocking easier for you... Run the FSB up and watch your CPU speed rise.

uhm. All the revision 2.0 and above nForce 2 have native support of 400 ram and 400 fsb.

Only if u have the Barton 400FSB "3200+" Other than that it's faster to run at DDR333, since it would by sync'ed. DDR400 does make OC'ing easier for you!

EDIT: Ram is always backwards compatible, a DDR400 can run at DDR266 if u wanted, but a DDR266 can't run in DDR400. Is the confusing, or clear?

Yes, (sorry didnt see the other question) it is actually a waste of money to buy pc3200, when youre only gonna use the pc2700 (333) mode. THeres a popular gimmick, that underclocked (ie pc3200 running at 2700, etc) memory is faster. BS. Just marketing to get extra $$$ from performance obsessed users. I asssume you got an AMD cpu, right? Well, it is important that the cpu and memory be ran at the same speed (333 so far). Well, unless you're crazy about performance (ie not planning to overclok your CPU fsb to 200 mhz), you really dont need the pc3200 (and above) memory. Dang, i overclocked (when it was cold outside - i dont have an expensuve ass hs/fan, so i put my pc outside) my FSB and memory bus to 200 mhz, ran 2 hours of quake 2 (software mode) with no problem. And i have friggin 2700 (Samsung tho). THen i went back, of course - i dont have to stress my cpu.
The more important part of the memory, however is the CL latency.
