I can't figure this out for the life of me.

I bought HL2 off the shelf and have long since finished it.
I want to play HL:Source but it asks for a cd key. I enter my HL2 key and it tells me to eat shyt or something on that order.
Do I need to buy HL in order to play HL:Source?
I'd be more than happy to do it but I can't find an option.

basic hl package in stores only brought you hl2 and cs:source, collectors edition had the whole lot

online there were three options
bronze, same as the basic store package
silver, think same as collectors edition
gold, some shít you never needed

So how can I get HL:Source? Steam won't let me purchase any of the packages.

no idea, but frankly after what I have been reading, you are not missing much, hl source is not anything what you expect

I think you can buy HL:Source by its self on Steam.

What Steam are you using?

I sure would love to get my hands on it.

n00b.

I played HL:Source. It sucks. The only ***ONLY*** differences are two things: the physics engine (not bad) and the water effects.

...wtf...

That's it? That's FVCKING IT!?

Yes. That's it.

Those don't add nearly enough to the game for me to play it again. When HL is completely rewritten with the look and feel of HL2, then I'll be happy. Visually, it's just the water that's changed. Water. Yay. :frown: The physics engine's upgraded. Wow. NPC's fly back when you shoot them. Yay. :frown:

That's a pretty glowing review Nik, Thanks. 🙂
I bought the retail HL2 and it appears that there is no option available for me to upgrade to anything. I guess it's because Sierra sold the "Shelf versions" and Steam sold the download package deals.
Ya know what? Steam sucks out loud. It's taken me a long time to get on the bandwagon, but if this is the best they can do...(rant cut short because as an average nipplehead consumer I didn't realize that buying the game would lead me to this point. I have to take some responsibility here. My next manuever is to shitcan HL2, steam, and the whole shebang. /responsibility.)
