I don't want to spawn a new window every time I click on a symlink or drill down into a path.

I looked in Edit -> Preferences and something like this should be there, but it isn't. How do I fix it? I want the same window...

<--- knows his is a basic question but this annoys me greatly

Try entering this in the terminal.

gconftool-2 --type boolean --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser true

Wow, thanks.
I see the 'always open in browser windows' option under edit->preferences now, it just seems kind of an...ambiguous wording for what it is trying to accomplish. Thanks for your help very much.

you can also middle click a folder or whatnot in nautilus in 'spatial window mode'. That will close the previous window and open a new one.

Personally I like spatial mode, but then again I don't use file manager for system stuff. I always use the command line.. I only use nautilus for stuff in my home folder.
