i always put either a couple family guy or south park episodes on at a low volume at night and fall asleep to them...

i cant seem to fall asleep with nothing on... i just start thinking about random things and it keeps me up

should i seek help or is this normal?

I think it's normal, because it's probably based on what you hear while you're awake. If you live in a noisy area or something like that, then I'd assume you would more accustomed to that than silence

I also sleep better when there's noise around me. I don't like the silence.

my father has the same thing. he suffers from constant anxiety in bed if he's not listening to the radio or tv while falling asleep. He has alot on his mind, & like mac said, he's use to it.

Sometimes I put on music while I go to sleep and sometimes I can't stand for there to be anything on. Maybe because I have heard it so much I am bored/ tired of it. I know other people who do the same thing.

I have two computers (probably like 8 fans) running overnight at my dorm. When I went home, as i was in bed all i coudl hear was teh SCREAMING sound of Silence... it was an insane ringing in my ears from lack of noise.

Me too but I need to hear voices on the radio so I listen to an all news station.

If I had music on I would never fall asleep.

So I guess it's not really unusual.

so having A LOT on your mind is anxiety? I have problems with my mind constantly running off, and i have problems staying focused on one thing, but i always thought it was normal. . . so it isn't? There are times at night where i keep myself up for 3-4 hours just thinking and pondering.

I think we're all to used to hearing our 10 case fans blowing....

that's true.

yup.

I wonder what total silence would be like (I mean total! Not any biological noises, no EM buzz, nothing but oneself).

I need to hear the humm of the fans in my computer to keep asleep (had power outtages in the middle of the night and woken up because I could not hear my pc. I usually watch some anime and fall asleep to that every night anyways or tv or whatever. Always noise though.

I have an Enya CD that I throw in...always puts me to sleep. :)

Works wonders during finals when I can't force myself to sleep even when I need some shuteye.

I like a fan. Nice sleeping noise.

The best is rain on a tin roof, but you have to take what you can get.

I can't sleep in silence either. That's why I keep my computer running 24-7; the white noise of the fans provides a nice steady background to which I can readily pass into sleep.

I have my fan on all year round so I could sleep better at night.
