I have Outlook 2000 and will be reinstalling WXP soon for a new motherboard.
I exported Outlook 2k to backup.pst, but if I open the Address Book and click on 'File' the menu items 'import' and 'export' are greyed out.
How do I save my Address Book intries?

Maybe the way I've been using Outlook 2k all these years has been wrong, but it seems that if I go to create an email I can click on the "To" button and the Address Book comes up. I keep my contacts too, but they are separate from the address book. I don't know why, but it would be nice if any contact with an email address would have an entry in the address book. Dumb design, or I never understood the cross-over between "contacts" and the address book.

this is the way i have been backing up, and restoring my outlook files, since win2k came out.
now using winxp, and outlook2002.
i do a daily copy of the following folders (all files in the folders).
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\*.* (*.pst files, ect)
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\*.* (

the above assumes you have win2k or winxp. if win98 or me, your path would be similar.

i then, on my new install of outlook, start it up, set up my account, i dont retrive any new emails
at this point, i then close outlook down. this will create the above pathways. i then copy the
contents of the above folders to the newly created folders, over writting any existing files.
i then start up outlook, and there are all my emails. the address book is a little harder.
you go into; toos-->email accounts-->view or change existing directories or address books,
then 'next' button. select 'outlook address book' then press 'remove'. then press 'add',
choose outlook address book, and creat it. you will get a message, about having to restart
outlook. close outlook down. restart it. create a new email, select the 'to' button, which brings
up the 'select names' box. to the right of that there is a pull down arrow, well, pull it down, and select contacts. nothing will appear. close the 'select names' box, and select 'to' again. this time you should have a 'select names' box, with all your old addresses in it. i might have some of the details off slightly, doing it from memory. and i am on pain killers, because is severly cut 3 of my fingers (broke one, lost 2 nails), and i am typing with only my thumb on my left hand. normally i can type with all 10 fingers.
this is my method, because it has worked for me for 5 years strait. and i re-install windows about every 2 months.
