this has been happening for over a month now. almost every day i feel like i'm going to throw up 30 minutes after i eat. i also wake up unable to eat breakfast most days due to nausea.

wonder how long i should wait to see a doctor? or maybe i should just try only eating toast or something.

on the plus side, i've lost 6 pounds so far

If you have a GP, you should go see a doctor tomorrow. Tell them you've been nauseous for a month & that you need to get in today. Or go to an after-hours clinic tonight. Don't mess around with your health bro!

i do have a regular doctor and i saw him last year for the first time in forever. told him i haven't been able to eat rice for 3 or 4 years now, it just randomly started tearing up my insides in a big way. his response was "well maybe don't eat rice?"

so this past month i thought i could just figure out what was causing the problems, but no matter what i eat/don't eat, it doesn't seem to go away. maybe if i just eat absolutely nothing for a few days...

unfortunately i'm going to be traveling over the holiday so maybe i'll see him next week

You might have an Ulcer. That's one of the main symptoms is nausea after eating. You really should have it looked at by a doctor.

In that case, get your GP to give you a referral to a GI doctor. Like daveybrat said, could be an ulcer. Rice is usually pretty well-tolerated even for people with goofed-up stomachs, so if rice tears you up & you're getting daily reflux to the point of nausea after every meal, you've got something major going on that warrants getting help for ASAP. I couldn't eat a lot of foods for like ten years, so I don't mess around with my stomach anymore. And be willing to get a second opinion...if rice wrecks your gut & your doctor says just don't eat it anymore, that is just doctor-speak for "I don't want to deal with your problem". Go find a new GP too!

For a quick relief option and to see if it's a possible Ulcer, try taking some Zantac before you eat and see if that helps. It's not a cure, but it might help you temporarily.

If you're overweight (even just a bit), drop some of it. I used to get really really bad acid reflux until I dropped passed a weight threshold, was good after that.

Also, whatever you do, don't get started on acid reducers (Tums, Omeprazole, etc). Those do more long term harm than good.

There are worse problems to have. Most of us can't eat food without shitting out of our asses. It's gross and disgusting and there has to be a better way, its 2018.

Yeah, you need to get to a doc, you don't want to end up with Barrett’s esophagus.

When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.

Chances are you are overweight and have weight associated GI symptoms or you are eating/drinking too much acidity.

My GF had similar issues, not quite as bad. After lots of specialty doc visits, turns out she is allergic to gluten. She eats gluten free now (at the direction of an allergist) and no more problems.

Could be an allergy you don’t know about

I've been on 40mg Omeprazole daily for 12 years now. If I don't take it even drinking water gives me reflux. Even with it I get heartburn and reflux about half the time. Been to several doctors and scoped and nothing has ever been found. I really wish I could get off these damn things.

I've found I've had less of an appetite lately (say, for the past two weeks) which is bullshit cause I have an already miserable appetite anyway. I've been kinda struggling to even eat breakfast which I never really had felt. I just don't feel like f'ing eating. But I think it's just depression. Your issue sounds like something else; I'd definitely get that shit checked out by a doc man. We need our pome man healthy!

As for me, man I wish they made a pill that increased your appetite (smoking weed doesn't give me much munchies and I don't partake in that crap anymore anyway). I would make that inventor/pharma company mother scratching RICH.

One bit of information I am not seeing in this thread is that if my memory is correct brianmanahan has suffered a traumatic brain injury in the past.

Could his new problems be related to neurological damage?

Is the doctor he saw aware of total medical history?

Or this whole post may be a dead end.

Go see a doctor a clinic heck an emergency room but go now. Walk out the door and go, now. You have a couple possible outcomes you i'll find out its nothing doctor will cure you and you won't be constantly worrying about it anymore (less stress = better health) or you only have 2 weeks to live and can I have all your stuff.

My Grandaughter (27) has brain injury. She has had problems with keeping food down and bile in. Multiple trips to ER came up with diagnosis of dead spot in intestine. Food failed to progress, went bad and caused stomach to expel in either direction. Suggested Cleveland Clinic for intestinal pacemaker. Sounded right and we were planning trip to Cleveland but wanted second opinion. UM Medical reviewed with additional testing and came up with she was allergic to smoking pot.
My daughter and I were dumbfounded and rejected this analysis. Grandkid says what can it hurt to try and stopped. 2 months and lo and behold is doing much better.
Maybe this applies perhaps not but there you have it.

I was almost in the same boat as you, one omeprazole a day or so, about 5yrs. I don't take 'em anymore. Weaned off by losing weight, and now I don't get reflux. I'm 100% serious about this, even if you don't think you're particularly overweight (I was maybe 210, 5'9''), the additional weight from your stomach fat adds pressure to your stomach/innards, which pushes upwards on the sphincter at the bottom of your esophagus/top of stomach. As a bonus, by taking those fucking omeprazoles, it's screwing with your gut flora by preventing stomach acid from filtering out all the crap we wolf down. I'm *still* dealing with intestinal issues due to imbalanced gut bacteria, but that has gotten better over time. Another help (and will assist further as time goes on) is to reduce your intake of anything sugary or carb-loaded. The bacteria in your intestines loves that shit and turns it into gas, which puts further pressure on everything upstream and downstream. Deny them that joy, and let them starve to death.

I can confidently say I never talked to a single doctor that knew a goddamned thing about this, and all of them wanted to run a camera up my ass as their first course of action.

175 @ 5'10" here so not a whole lot of weight to lose. My Dr is thinking I may actually produce too little stomach acid which causes my stomach to churn more than normal which allows stuff to come back up easier. All I know is that I am not going to take another $800 nap for no information.

That's possible, though a very, very small number of people actually have acid overproduction issues. To the point that acid reducers should be script only, imo. Too many commercials have convinced too many people that stomach acid is bad and they need to pop a pill rather than drop weight or figure out the actual source of the problem.

I'd ask for some kind of clinical confirmation, with a reason, not just 'i guess it's just acid overproduction, take Omeprazole until you die'.

Underproduction, not over. So far no one can find any reason that I should be having reflux after eating or drinking almost anything. Water does it, lettuce does it, plain rice does it, fruit does it. Oddly enough I am generally fine with meat and potatos though not always. Dr Pepper guaranteed it would happen so I have maybe one a year now but root beer does not, I still just drink water most of the time though.

Well, i mean, from a physical standpoint if you've got acid entering your esophagus, it means either you've got too much fluid/stuff for the size of your stomach (which could indicate an acid overproduction.. note that doesn't mean too acidic, just that you're overproducing bile), OR you've got a failing sphincter muscle at the base of your esophagus. Either one would let acid pass into your throat, though basically the same mechanism (can't keep the hole closed and stuff's coming up). Anything could cause this due to additional uncompressible fluid entering your stomach and displacing acid upward.

Logically a thickening of the stomach lining due to inflammation could cause it to become less pliable, more rigid, and less able to flex under an additional volume of food/liquid, though I'd be nervous about a long-term level of inflammation like that. I wouldn't rule it out though. Try hitting up some ginger tea once a day, see if things calm down a bit. If it does, you might start prodding your doctor about stomach lining inflammation causes, and fixes. That's probably where I'd personally start.

Beyond that, hit up a gastroenterologist. Don't let them say your only option is to scope, tell them to use that vast trove of medical knowledge they're supposed to have and think about the problem.
