I was almost in the same boat as you, one omeprazole a day or so, about 5yrs. I don't take 'em anymore. Weaned off by losing weight, and now I don't get reflux. I'm 100% serious about this, even if you don't think you're particularly overweight (I was maybe 210, 5'9''), the additional weight from your stomach fat adds pressure to your stomach/innards, which pushes upwards on the sphincter at the bottom of your esophagus/top of stomach. As a bonus, by taking those fucking omeprazoles, it's screwing with your gut flora by preventing stomach acid from filtering out all the crap we wolf down. I'm *still* dealing with intestinal issues due to imbalanced gut bacteria, but that has gotten better over time. Another help (and will assist further as time goes on) is to reduce your intake of anything sugary or carb-loaded. The bacteria in your intestines loves that shit and turns it into gas, which puts further pressure on everything upstream and downstream. Deny them that joy, and let them starve to death.
I can confidently say I never talked to a single doctor that knew a goddamned thing about this, and all of them wanted to run a camera up my ass as their first course of action.
