I just arrived at college a couple days ago and NONE of the programs that I have been using are working to download music. I've tried kazaa, winmx, songspy, and now I'm trying things on the gnutella network (e.g. bearshare). Can anyone help me with some programs that might work!?! I need music!

Looks like your college has found just about every filesharing program out there and blocked it. If they've blocked that many, chances are they're monitoring ports for traffic used, and if they see a huge spike on one, they'll check it out and shut it down if it's file sharing. My university was bad about that, after a marathon download session of grabbing a linux distro (3 CDs, perfectly legal), they capped port 21 to something disgustingly low. They had special portscanners that they'd target your pc with too if they noticed a lot of traffic to a particular port.

It kind of sucked, because I was actually using FTP for my job at the time, so it made uploading web pages sloooow.

But then I moved off campus and got a real network connection :).

People who don't think p2p can be stopped just need to look at universities doing it. ISP's can do the same thing, and all it takes is a court order from the RIAA to make them do it. I am honestly surprised they haven't already went after some of the bigger providors asking them to close the ports that p2p programs use.
