I can't change the monitor frequency...?

Hi,

I have this eMachines monitor, an eView 15s, and I can't seem to figure out how to switch to 100 Hz. Can't seem to be able to change it from 60 Hz. I don't have the manual, and it's not on the manufacturer's website.

Does anyone here know this?

Are you saying that only 60 hertz is all that appears in the change resolution selection box? Does the name of the monitor appear on the monitor tab? If so maybe the monitor will only do 60 hertz although that sounds kinda low.

make certain that you have the correct monitor and adapter identified with the most current drivers.

it might be max'ing out at 60 if it's an older monitor and you're pushing the max resolution. otherwise you should be accessing at least 70 and if it's a newer unit, 120+.

I bought it open box from Best Buy, I don't have the instructions manual or the drivers disk. So the computer recognizes it as a Plug and Play monitor, and the refresh rate was set automatically at 60 Hz. The thing is, there are some setting buttons on the front of the monitor which allow me to change contrast and so on, and there's some setting for frequency, but I can't get to change it - I just get a "Preset 10 - 60 Hz" or something... The thing is, out of four buttons, I can only use two, I don't know what the other two are good for, regardless of how much I try to press them in sequence etc.

Does anyone have this model, or a booklet for it?

I had been having that problem with my Sony CPD-G400.

I think the refresh rate is transfered to the monitor to the computer by something called DDC.

Anyway, for some reason, the DDC information wasnt showing up in my Creative Blaster Control, but the refresh rate could be set to anything, so I had no real problem.

Moving on, today, I reformatted, and decided to use newer drivers where Blaster Control was not present, I didnt know how to set me refresh rate to something above 60Hz, so I downloaded the INF drivers from Sony's site, there was not an exact match for my monitor, but it was close enough: GDM-400PS.

I can now set the refresh rate through the display properties aplet now.

Have you tried downloading any infs for the monitor then?

The 15S monitor is only a 55Khz horizontal scan frequency monitor. Theoretically it will do a very low resolution 640 x 480 at 100Hz. However I would bet that the information in the DDC files tells the computer to run it at 60Hz. You need a monitor with a higher horizontal scan frequency to run faster refresh rates.

Monitors cannot control refresh rates, only your video card can control the rate it sends the signal to the monitor.

Good Luck
