Wow... I really don't usualy follow awards... but not a single Golden Globe for LOTR?!
I hadn't had this much fun in the Theater for a LONG time! It was original, daring and had an awesome story.
I guess the same people that write reviews voted for the Movies. :Q

wouldnt the nominations have been made way before it was even out? or was it nominated? i just assumed it would be eligible in the 2003 awards.

It was nominated for a few sound/music categories but didn't win. Moulin Rouge won which was expected.

Of course they did. When they don't it's called the People's Choice Awards. I'll go with you on the daring and awesome story part, but it was based on a 50 year old book. That sort of kills any originality (except for the bits of stuff that added in the movie).

The Golden Globe Awards is and has always been a phony-baloney affair in which a nominee only has to promise to show up to become a sure winner. So LOTR not getting a single Globe is a good thing. Let's wait and see what happens at the Oscars.

I haven't watched Moulin Rouge, but my mom rented it and she couldn't make it through the first half hour of the film.

Well, I am not surprised. It looks like LOTR is going to get royally snubbed on Oscar night, too. They will go with the "safe" pick (ABM) as usual.

BTW, Moulin Rouge winning for best score was an absolute joke...at least Shore's work was actually original.

I guess PJ & Co. will just have to be satisfied with their measly $300 million domestic, to go with virtually universal praise from both critics and the moviegoing public. Too bad. ;)

LOTR isn't really a good movie for the golden globes. The globes are all about drama and comedy. I know you all might not agree with this, but LOTR is an action/adventure movie. It had no chance.

Now the oscars are a different story. I believe LOTR has an excellent change of winning best Visual Effects, best sound Effects, best makeup, best Costumes, best Cinematography and best Set Design. Less of a chance, though possible: best Director and best Picture.

They're just mad at the cliffhanging. Believe me, when RotK comes out, it'll be nominated for and win every award in every category.

the movie was totally mediocre. had some good special effects but as far as character development/plot it lacked. i left the theatre completely unfulfilled. they lead you to believe that the movie is all about destroying the ring, yet the movie ends well before that happens, wtf? i know this is the first of three movies but that is no excuse. why was gandalf's (sp?) wizard friend evil? i wasnt convinced. there were a lot of things that just didnt quite fit in. this movie is mediocre and doesnt deserve an award, get over it.

I don't see what you guys are upset for. Like stated above, the Golden Globes are about comedy and drama. It has a better chance at the Oscars (hell, even the steaming pile of dung called The Matrix racked up at the Oscars).

I agree that it will probably win best special effects and will probably sweep the techinical Oscars (you know, the other Oscars with all the geeks in them always hosted by some hot actress), but I doubt they will win best movie. I think A Beautiful Mind will take it again.

Boy, you're really ignorant. The fact that this is the first of three movies is no excuse for not completing the entire plot of the films in the first one? Christ almighty. As for character development, the characters haven't been through the experiences that will really alter their characters yet; only ones which set the building blocks for later events. Go read the books. And as far as Saruman goes, if you had been paying attention you would have noticed Sauron's presence in the Palantir of Orthanc (Isengard). Saruman has been in contact with the Dark Lord and has joined his side...sort of. More of that in the second film.

Oh, and lay off the Matrix there, buddy. That film pwns j00.

As for A Beautiful Mind, looks like a GREAT film, haven't seen it yet though...but doesn't change my opinion that it can kiss my @$$ because it barely, if at all, came out in 2001. I know here it was like the first film out of 2002...so it shouldn't even be in the running, in which case LotR sweeps the board.
