so, here is what i have running right now.

1 Dual P4 2.6 Xeon system with 2 GB RDRam, 2 Raid arrays (array 1: 2 36.4 gb HD raid 1, array 2: 2 146 gb HD raid 1).

1 Dual Opteron 242, 1 gb ECC Ram, 1 SATA 200 gb HD, ATI 9700 Pro

1 A64 754 pin 3400 on MATX board, 512 mb ram (running Linspire), 1 80 gb SATA HD

1 AMD XP 3200, 512 MB Ram, ATI AIW 9700,

1 IBM T42 Laptop

so now, i have this new X2 cpu i bought, 4200. i have a HD, Ram (2 512 mb sticks of Kingston 3200), case, power supply, motherboard (Abit A8N SLI), Audigy 2z and geforce 5200 PCIe vid card. only needs an optical drive, will probably buy a dvd writer with lightscribe.

so, 5 systems soon to be 6 with narry a gaming system in the bunch.

here is the question, should i buy a REAL SLI vid card (spend $800.00) and build a real gaming system (i don't really ever do any gaming).

That's a shame, I mean, your house must stink now that you've given up showering to use Linux. :D

if youre not into gamin, then no. that 9700 should do well, just pair it with your best system and you should be happy with any light gaming you do.

well, i had Fedora and Ubuntu on there before i took advantage of the latest Linspire for free deal. but i'm not an elitest like some, so yes, i consider linspire linux.

i've also done some work with smoothwall integrations at client locations.

mb not true linux work from elitest perspective, but yes, i consider all of those linux products. ;)

i got the dual opteron cpus (242's), 1 gb of ECC Ram and the K8T Master mb (all three parts) for only $420.00 shipped. yes, i was not strong enough to resist that.

then last night, i saw the X2 on sale in FS forums for $380 and yes, i succumbed again.

it's ok, i'll sell many of these off for 2 or 3 times what i could get for them on AT.

;)

in that context, it's kind of funny.

yes, i'm not a nonshowering cli (although i am a dos demon, half my clients stay with me because of my dos expertise) linux / unix madman.

i'm just a practical linux user. fact is, a lot of my clients are looking for alternatives to windows. linux gives them a more secure solution.
