I can't believe an Army Reserve member tried this BS!

So I work at a motel (which I won't name just for the hell of it). There is a detachment of the army reserve (taking up about 40 rooms) staying in said motel for the weekend while they are in training before they head into the field (we all know where that is). The motel is100% paid for by the Army through a contract with our corporate office.

This morning the people in one room complained that their toilet was having problems flushing. Maintence went and checked it out this afternoon and said it was perfectly fine. This evening, the same room called saying that they told us that the shower was not draining and why was it not fixed. Seeing as how maintenence had left hours earlier, the only thing we could do was move them to another room. The guy in the room had already started being an ass at this point. Over the next couple of calls, he actually wanted A REFUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, seeing as how he NEVER paid a cent for the room (whereas my taxes did), this is TOTAL bull excrement!!!!!

There are asshats in every organization that think they pull a fast one. Maybe you should give his commander a call.

I plan on talking with the seargent tommorow, but need to talk to my manager first. The manager there tonight did not have the balls to bring it up to him. If the situation is not resolved quietly and it in some way becomes an issue, my ass=fired.

The way I see it, if the guy had a complaint, he should take it up with the seargent, not try and get something out of it for himself.

being in the army reserves doesn't make you part of "America's Finest" any more than being a janitor at a federal building does. If he was in the green berets, or a medal of honor recipient, or something, then he earned that "America's Finest" title.

There are special forces (green beret) units in the reserves (actually Nationional Gaurd) too.

Edit for spelling

Most of them do. However, it doesn't take any huge amount of honor or respectability to be allowed into the army or reserves. I'm simply stating that just being a member of the organization doesn't show any outstanding respectability or dedication. It's like saying that someone is especially skilled in thier craft solely because they're a member of the union.

Anybody who's taken it upon themselves to defend our country deserves some respect as long as they act in a way to keep it. This guy just lost it.

I think you're blowing smoke when you will only give the title of "America's Finest" to a member of the Green Berets or a Medal of Honor recipient. More respect needs to be provided for ALL members of the armed forces - whether they are a cook, or fighting on the front lines. Even though one might not be in direct combat, they are still part of the support network for the military which allows the members of the Green Berets to carry out their mission.

Additionally, for those who haven't served in the military, I think you should refrain from making comments. 😉

I viewed it as he was not requesting a refund for HIMSELF, but a refund for the Government - who was paying for the rooms. Since he didn't personally provide his credit card - or, his cash, asking for a refund to benefit himself would seem silly. Am I the only one who thinks that he was just trying to get a refund for the Government?

Oh and I should get a lot of credit too then, because I'm in the highest tax bracket and give a lot of money in taxes.

we're ALL in on this, thats why i think its really stupid when people say they [just any military person] deserve more respect. SOMEONE has gotta be the bread winner in all this, not to mention that a lot of people join the army or what not to get a free ride in college, and/or other benefits, not because they really care more about this country than someone else.

edit: a lot of people also use it to straighten out their lives. I know a couple of guys in HS that always used to get in fights and got bad grades and never graduated that joined the army. Its probably one of the better things you can do at that point.

a lot of people join the army or what not to get a free ride in college
There is no *free ride* for college in the Army - unless you get into an academy. College plans require some form of contribution by the member of the armed forces and then the military provides matching funds. Plus, once the person separates from the military, one big check is not handed over to them for the purpose of going to college. The individual needs to request funds from the "account" on a timed basis. Plus, the funds have a limited period of use and must be used up within 10 years of separation from the military.

Again, I'll state that unless people have served in the military, they should refrain from making comments. 😉

considering that our military is so effective due to the amount of resources we put into it, i'll talk as much as I wish to. Afterall, I'm paying for it (and more than 99% of the population). You should keep your comments to yourself. 😉

My comment had nothing to do with civilians. I was simply trying to make a point that you can't single out any particular specialty in the military as being "superior." Each person in the military has their own area that they specialize in - whether it is in a direct combat role, or a support role. Again, I will state that equal recognition has to be given to ALL members of the armed forces.

So, in your opinion, this thread should never have been started, unless DeathbyAnts is a veteran? You can't tell people not to talk about the army unless they've experienced any more than you can tell people not to talk about sex until they've done it.
