I can't afford my gasoline

Many countries that have oil reserves and refinement sell gas in their country at a significant discount to world prices.

We'd never consider mandating that tho...at this point that would cut too deeply into the oil exec summer/winter/autumn/spring vacation home reserves.

The only short term bright side I see is that there will be less teenage pregnancies, since they won't be able to afford taking the car out. 😛

All those people saying to move...My mom works in the next town over. She doesn't have much of a choice, as it's the post office. We should move there then, right? But wait, they don't have a school (it's a really piddly town), and they don't have busses to pick up kids there. So now I'd have to drive back to my town.

On top of that, my dad works construction, so he has to drive about 90 miles twice a week..he lives in a camper through the weekdays and comes home on the weekends.

Also, I have to drive to school to be able to participate in any after school activities.

Someone wanna figure out a solution to all of these problems? There isn't one. We have to bite the bullet. It doesn't make sense that supposedly all our refineries are at 100% and that's why gas prices are going up. If that were true, I'm dang sure some company would build another refinery. Guaranteed usage, good PR..you'd have it all.

Try getting the building permits from the "not in my neighborhood" crowd...

A new refinery hasn't been built in 30 years mostly because of environmental concerns and the NIMBY crowd. Some refineries have expanded in that time frame though. Even then, construction of a new refinery will take a few years so there will be no immediate impact.

The government should facilitate the building nuclear power plants on the newly closed bases with an abundance of water near them.

good. Oil companies are recording record profits and the American public gets screwed. In addition, Congress and the President do nothing about it. Why aren't they putting presure on the oil companies to reduce the price of oil? Oh, could it be that our beloved President and Republican run Congress are both pro BIG business?

I agree with Triumph. We live in a capitalist economy and by golly we should all be pro BIG business. In that regard I believe that you should all lose your jobs to the immigrants that are pouring into this country? You say you make $22 an hr? lol, please. Big business can train 3 Mexicans to do your job. Do the math: 3>1. I'd take the 3 immigrants any day.

Thank god I have a nice sizable inheritance coming my way when my uncle passes away. The money that I'm getting will easily sustain me while more middle American's slide into poverty.

what a shame.

Motion for ban.

lets say $3 for a gallon of petrol .....3.8litres

now thats £1.68247 for 3.8litres

which equals 44pence a litre.....which for us is BLOODY cheep!

at the moment, the safeway up the road is selling 95ron (our regular) unleaded for 90pence a litre. if you lived here thats £3.42 for 1 american gallon

which is about $6 a gallon

That's because your goverment taxes the shyte out of it, not because it cost more per barrel from the same source, even though you guys produce and export large amounts of oil even.

I'd venture to say that, if all retarded intervention were stripped and enough money waved in the contractor's faces, we could have a brand new refinery in 3-4 months.

...which, IIRC, is because your government puts roughly twice the taxes on petrol that the US does.

You also have public transportation, which in those parts of the States that I've lived is a joke. America is a car society. People growing up look forward to their first license, their first car, a faster car.

whoa what a deja vu....didn't I see this thread already? Anyways, if gas is such a problem, then perhaps you should move to Iraq where gas is only 5 cents a gallon.

Life isn't easy. You make the best choices given your options. The rest of the economy should not change so that you don't have to - that isn't how it works. It's called the persuit of happiness. If your current situation sucks, change it. If you're not willing to make a drastic change (move, get a new job, get an education), then it doesn't suck that bad.
