I Cannot Log Into A Site After Reformatting My HD...

I just reformatted my C: drive, and downgraded from Windows ME to Windows 98 SE. Upon getting my DSL set up properly, I logged onto a favourite site of mine, and tried to login into the Forums. Windows 98 SE asked me if I wanted it to remember my password, and I told it No, and told it to never ask again. When I log into the site now, it gives me the normal Thank You For Logging In message, but still displays the Login hypertext link above it, and when I try to do anything, it says I am not logged in. I downloaded the updates for InterNet Explorer, but that did not help. The site utilizes the newest version of UBB. I checked with the site administrator, and I am not banned. :p

Can anyone offer me any advice? Thanks.

Maetryx here,

Yep. It's a cookie problem. I think we've got it. Doh! BSOD. Shotgun Steve is on the phone with me, crashing his computer trying to reset the security levels in IE5.5 back to medium. We'll get it in a minute.

Now, if my machine would only resume booting off the C: drive, we'd be happily shooting terrorists in Counter Strike.....

That did not solve the problem. I even set it to Low Security and tried it, and no go. :( AnandTech Forum's cookie is fine, I was able to login no problem.

Just tried the web browser Opera, and I still cannot log in. It has to be something with Windows, what can it be?

I went lookies for cookies pertaining to the site I am trying to login to, and found them in at least four different Directories. I deleted them, and still no go. They seem to be scattered everywhere! What can I do?

Hrm - could be IE's cache - I've had similar difficulties at one point.

Destroy the cache (well - delete the files) & if necessary manually reload (i.e.: press the button) - that helps me most of the time.

Hrm. The miracle of M$ www-browsing ... :(
