I cannot get my computer to recognize the CD drive

I'm trying to reinstall all the programs on my computer because I had a bunch of goofy errors. Formatted the hard drive, installed DOS 6.2. Went to Bios settings, says there is a CD player and a floppy at A but I go through bootup it loads DOS then comes up with a C prompt. I can switch to the A drive but not my D drive which is the CD player and where I need to reload my windows.
I know this is probably dumb and maybe I'm going about this all wrong but I need help.

If you are installing from DOS, and imho that's the hard way, you must install dos drivers for the cdrom.

If you use a Win98 boot disk, the CDrom drivers are loaded into a 'virtual drive' temporarily so the installation program can access the cdrom.

Definitely get your hands on a windows 98 boot disk. It will detect your cd rom for you so u can install your software. I always keep a few extra just in case this happens.
