Isn't there some technology that the 6800s support but the x800s dont? I heard something about it in one of previews of the Age of Empires sequel that is coming soon.

You might be referring to the Shader Model 3.0 stuff...which doesn't seem to be all that important right now. (And I say this as a 6800GT owner)

MSRP is 299 so add 100 then you might as well get a 6800 GT. The 6800 series supports SM3.0 while the X800's don't. Whether that matters or not is up to you. Not many current games support it though it seems more and more titles will add support in the future.
