I cannot connect to internet

okay, my cousin brother has come to my place for holidays , and he wanted to use his internet plan as his Broadband plan is faster.
He lives in the same area as me and have same ISP.

But my router successfully connects to internet with both mine and my friend's username and passwords , but with my brother's username and password , router cannot connect to internet. WHAT could be the problem ?

I want to make sure I have this correct:

You are attempting to connect your DSL modem at your premise with your brother's account?
I honestly don't have a solution for your problem, I am not even sure that this normally works. I remember I tried to do this once with my bro's ATT DSL PPPOE login information, didn't work.

I'm interested to see what others have to say.
 
I'm not sure what to say, either. I guess call the ISP? I personally would be very surprised if you could get this to work.
 
He would need to bring his modem with him AND you'd both have to be on the same node. Userid/pwd is tied to the MAC of the modem and Modem is tied to a node.

I've switched out DSL modems numerous times without doing any funny stuff. I just type in my current PPPOE information and it works. You sure about this? I was on ATT.

I dont know how it works anymore with VDSL.
 
Generally, the provisioning (speed) of an account is tied to the physical line (phone number). So even if you could get your brother's login to work at your place, OP, then you still wouldn't get his line speed. Your line would continue to work at your provisioned speed.
 
But my friend in same area and ISP , and his credentials to work to connect to ISP and
the thing is that i have my broadband plan much lesser than my line's downstream. Thats why i get max line speed with other accounts.
 
I think what most of us are saying is this: there is no guarantee from the ISP that this will work (call them to double check). Since the ISP doesn't actively support this, then the fact that it worked once for you is cool, but doesn't really help. You would probably need someone with internal knowledge about your internet provider to be able to help you.
