I cannot boot into Safe Mode (Windows 7) and SSD

Fairly new computer with SSD. I cannot boot into Safe Mode in Windows 7. When I use F8 I get a boot screen for selecting drive. I choose the SSD (my boot drive) and then hit hold down F8 again but it goes into normal windows. I tried several times. I also tried repeatedly hitting F8. No tries worked.

I have found other messages but no solutions. Are SSD so fast, it is hard to get the F8 before normal boot? I never had this problem on a HHD system.

Any way to do it with F8? Are there other ways to get in safe mode (I want to uninstall my graphic drivers before adding new ones)?

Edit: I used MSCONFIG to boot to safe mode.
