I Can Surf But Can't LAN

I have three PC's on a LAN at home.
#3 is the print server and internet gateway (using Windows ICS to with an always-on satellite connection).
My problem is with #1, which suddenly cannot access file / print sharing on the other two computers, although it is still connected to the net. The Network Neighbourhood window shows that #1 sees itself as well as #3, but it doesn't see #2. It will NOT, however, open #3. I get this message: "\\#3 is not accessable. The computer or sharename could not be found. Make sure you typed it correctly and try again".
I uninstalled the NIC as well as TCP/IP and then reinstalled both only to return to the same problem.
#3 can see itself as well as the other two computers and can access them without a problem. Same goes for #2.
#3 is running ZoneAlarm 2.1.44. #1 was running it, as well, but I removed it.
Is there, perhaps, some residue from ZoneAlarm on #1 that's preventing it from working properly?
Please help me out, folks!

Hey, guys.
I just launched ZoneAlarm and everything works again!
Apparantly, shutting it off was what made my network wonky, although I can't understand why it would have influence on the network if it's not loaded in memory. I should state that I had rebooted #1 several times with ZoneAlarm disabled, so naturally it didn't occur to me that it was the culprit.
Glad I got that figured out.
Still, I'd like to know how to properly disable ZoneAlarm so that it won't mess with my LAN.
Any takers?

Funny that ... I had the reverse ...
when I installed ZoneAlarm I lost the rest of the computers
... fixed that ...

but I also had the game of hide & seek before any firewall
solved that one with NetBEUI ... everything Ok ...
