First make sure your monitor even supports 100hz at the resolution you are running. Some monitors will boast being capable of handling 120hz, but they won't mention that is only at lower resolutions (640x480, 800x600). Make sure when you get into Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor that you have the box "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" checked. Windows is usually pretty good on only displaying the correct frequencies your monitor can support at any given resolution, but that also comes from vid drivers.
I'll use myself as an example, my monitor will push 120hz @ 800x600, while 1600x1200 is will only push 60. I would rather run 1600x1200, but I sacrificed screen size for a higher refresh (1280x1024 @ 85hz) because I think it's the best of both worlds. I have plenty of screen space, yet I don't have that rotten 60hz flicker.
But yea, if you really want to see if you are over sensitive to the refresh, just switch to 640x480 @ 100-120hz, if you still see the lines even then, you know its either YOU being a little over sensitive, or your monitor is going shot.
