Can't you just see all the schlock vendors going into overdrive to capitalize on these tragedies?

How can we convince the average American Joe Sixpack not to buy this crap and instead donate the money to help the families?

My first thought was that we could contact the legitimate charities and ask them to give each donor a small, cheap plaque or window sticker and then publicize that Joe should get one of those instead of being thought badly of for throwing his money away on china/silver.

That's one idea. You guys can come up with better. Let's use Anand power and the power of the web to educate people to do the right thing.

Phew glad I read your whole post before I replied. :)

Any souvenir associated with this event is sick. I intend to get a few newspapers and that special edition of Time. But that will be for my two children, so that maybe one day we can look at it an remember how everything was such a mess.
