Here is a very aggravating issue that Im hoping someone here can help me fix. My problem is that every detonator XP driver I try to install freezes my system except for the 22.80's. Here is a little bit of history. When I got my Leadtek Winfast GF3 last year everything was working great. Then I started experiencing crashes while using Internet Explorer. It seemed like everytime I used my scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll up or down a web page I would get this freeze up and I would have to reboot. Sometime ctrl-alt-del would work for me and sometimes I would have to hit the reset button on my computer. So I decided to do an upgrade to Win2k. I did the install and things seemed fine. I think I was using 12.41's at the time. I installed the 21.83's when they first came out and everything was still fine. I went to 22.80 and from there I decided to upgrade to Win XP. With the Win XP upgrade I decided to stick with the 22.80's for the time being because they seemed to work good and I wasnt experiencing the infinte loop error. Well, today I decided to upgrade to 27.20's so I downloaded them along with 27.10 as well. Through Add/Remove programs I uninstalled the 22.80's. I rebooted and through device manager I updated the drivers to 27.20. Everything went perfect. I rebooted and setup everything and decided to jump on the web. As soon as I got on MSN.com I scrolled down the page and the computer completely froze up. I had to reset the computer at this point. Upon reboot I decided to uninstall the 27.20's and install the 27.10's. Again I did this through Add/Remove and everything installed perfectly. All the files were 27.10 and everything looked good. I went on MSN and scrolled down and I got another freeze up. So I rebooted/uninstalled/rebooted and reinstalled the 22.80's and here I am now. Everything is back to normal again. If I didnt play games I would just leave it alone but I am really itching for some new drivers and faster fps on some of the newer games.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Here are my system specs:

AMD 1.33ghz AXIA T-Bird not overclocked
MSI K7 Master Rev 1.1
Swiftech 462a HSF
512mb DDR Crucial
Leadtek Winfast Geforce 3 not overclocked
Lian Li PC 60 Aluminum Case
Enermax 431w PSU
IBM GXP60 60gb HD
Yamaha 16x CD-rw
SB Live! Value

Thats about it..Thanks again for all the help.

Do a google groups search. There might be a newer bios that fixes it. I know ASUS or MSI one had a problem and a newer bios fixed it. can't really remember now which one it was.

Good luck with it.

I had always "updated driver" in XP, from the 21.xx series thru 27.xx. When I "upgraded" to 27.xx over 23.xx they weren't working well.
So I used the "add/remove programs" in the Control Panel to remove the drivers but when I checked the registry b/4 rebooting, I found that the Geforce key in the registry, under "HKLM/System/Current Control Set/Control/Video/xxxxxx.." wasn't deleted! Also, under the HKLM/System/Services/, there is an "nv" key which needs to go. If you had any drivers prior to 23.xx, there will also be an "nv4" key under Services. This "nv4" key is unused with the 23.xx-27.xx series.

To get the 27.xx series working, I had to remove the drivers, delete the registry keys etc, go into the "system32" folder and the "inf" folder, check for leftover junk, then reboot. At reboot Win XP found new hardware and I directed it to install the 27.xx drivers. As I say, 1st time "upgrading" drivers I ever had to do this. After doing the above, 27.xx are working fine and stopped some intermittant BSOD I was having in certain D3D games.

After you install the drivers, check under the "nv" key, make sure that the "ImagePath" value data points to "System32\Drivers\nv4_mini.sys". Some people have reported that this value is " nv4.sys", and have cured BSOD, lockups, etc by changing this to "nv4_mini.sys"

Note that these drivers worked for me, YMMV.

Thanks guys thus far for the help..I'll give your info a good read Ginfest and make sure any old traces of previous nvidia drivers are gone. I may also look into buying a new mobo and HSF. These MSI K7 Master boards arent being supported anymore so there are no more bios updates and my swiftech 462a is ridiculously loud.
