I can online game great, but when downloading files and try to upgrade software online, the downloads start, but freeze, and won't complete.

This is on another system that has in the past worked great untill I tried to network it with my other computer. This is using a cable modem and all by itself. I have checked the network settings and returned them to where they were before the network attempt. And like I say, the problem does not affect my online gamming with this computer, but try to download a 1-3mb file, and it freezes after receiving a breif portion of data.

What OS?

What kind of NIC?

How is your cabling?

Hub? Personal firewall/router? Firewall software on your machine?

Any reliabilty problems with the machine, at all?

Tried underclocking your system?

Win98 first edition. Lynksys 10/100 nic, cable is fine. The cable when moved over to my other machine works like a champ. I have swapped nics with the other machine that works fine. Not overclocked. No hub at this time, just straight to the cable modem.

It worked fine untill I attempted to network the two machines, and that's when I noticed it.

Replaced my Lynksys 10/100 nic with an old SMC 8432 10/ nic I had, and the problem has gone away.
Somewhere there has to be a Lynksys configured registry with bad data in it that just removing the nic from the system does not get rid of.

The nic works fine in another system, and had worked fine before I started my networking fiasco. Just swapping the Lynksys with another Lynksys would not work. Any ideas as to where I can find the driver system files in the computer for the lynksys?
