Any suggestions?

Weird... I know in Windows, all I do is drag and drop it while the iTunes Library - Music pane is open.

It doesn't do anything when you drop the files in iTunes? I simply drag files from Finder into the Library section of the iTunes window. I haven't had an issue with that yet.

I know in Windows I used to have issues (v8 and below) when I tried to load 20GB+, it would stall for a while while it parsed all the files.

I drag the music folder to the iTunes icon on the dock. When I click the find music link it acts like it is adding tracks for a few seconds then quits

Try opening up iTunes and dragging the files (folders and all) into the library view. See if that works. Also, since you already copied them to your internal hard drive, drag from there instead of the external just to eliminate that possibility.

Folder watching is one of the few things I actually like about the Zune software and wish that Apple had added it in the past oh... 8 years or so.

What type of files are they? From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1844?viewlocale=en_US

iTunes does not play unprotected WMA files, but instead converts the files to the file format selected in Importing preferences.

iTunes for Windows cannot import or play WMA files that are protected by Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM). These files usually come from other online music stores. Additionally, Windows Media Player encodes CDs to protected WMA format by default, though you may change that setting.

I am trying to drag the entire music folder from my mac into itunes

You had said before that you were dragging it to the icon in the Dock. I have no firsthand experience to say if that would work or not. However dragging it directly into the library of the open iTunes window does.

Have you tried going iTunes->Add folder (or whatever the verbiage, I am not at my mac right now)?

I think that they only convert in Windows.

Dragging the folder itself may not work. You may have to drag the individual files. If you have the files inside subfolders, use spotlight so that you have them all in the same window, then drag and drop into the open iTunes application.

I tried one song, it shows the green plus like I can but nothing

Ok, now I am starting to think that there may be permissions issues or something...

Try right clicking on one of the files and telling it to open in iTunes, see if it plays then.

Then, and I cannot believe that I am recommending this, go into Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility) select your boot drive from the sidebar on the left and then choose 'First Aid' from the tabs up top and finally, choose to repair disk permissions.

Also, if you get this in a reasonable amount of time, email me and we might be able to set up a screen sharing session
