Booooya!!!

I was laid off about a month ago - software industry. Compared to my old position, the new one is half the commute, has more interesting work, and included a 30% salary raise. Thanks for doing me a favor old company!

who wants a shot?

how did you find this new position? did you mention to the new employer that you were laid off and they still gave you a pay raise?

Thanks everyone! I'm quite happy with the arrangement.

New position was hooked up by a former co-worker who had moved to the new company a few months earlier.

And yep, I was transparent to my new employer about everything. Previous salary, what I wanted for a new salary, etc. The tech market is really booming right now and my resume is pretty top notch so they didn't have a problem with it.

We weren't laid off for performance reasons, my old company was in all sorts of financial/shareholder trouble and nuked our whole satellite office because they needed to cut costs (~35 engineers). I've heard through the grape vine they're in a world of trouble because there's no one to support the product we released in July (they cut the entire Dev team). Not my problem, haha!

Sounds like a sweet deal, where is this company located (about)?

Although I have a job offer I am looking for companies/areas that I could apply to.

Congrats OP. It's a tough market so good work. I'm putting in my notice of resignation today, chances are I'll be asked to leave immediately.

So stupid when they do this, like you couldn't have stolen/destroyed everything before you gave them your resignation.

Congrats OP.

Congrats man~ sucks during the lay off period, but as soon as you bounce back it's great especally if you get a pay raise and a better work commute/environment.

I hear people say stuff like this but does that really happen?

Guess being in the role I'm in it's always the desire to stay at least my 2 weeks and usually am asked if I can do more or be available afterwards if anything comes up.

I don't know that I'd really mind all that much if I was told to leave right after, it'd give me some time off before starting up a new role.

I gave my notice on Tuesday but because of how long it took for the new company to get back the all clear for the 3rd party they use for their background checks, I wasn't able to actually give a full 2 weeks notice to my current employer.

More like a week and a half.

They're in a somewhat rush mode now to find someone to replace me.

I brought in someone I used to work with already to interview but not sure that'll pan out and we're just pouring through resumes trying to find ones that look like a good fit so we can get them in here so I can sit in on the interviews and give my feedback before my last day.

We have had a few people resign this year. The boss asks for your client list and then it's GTFO.

The real fucked up thing is that there is no formal network and no standard computers so I just use my personal laptop for work. It contains my client info so they can have a copy as well. :D
