I can bike 100 miles at one time but I can't run at all...

My wife, on the other hand, can do both. WTF!!! Running just kills my shins and makes my knees ache. Yet my wife can run a marathon and just have mildly sore muscles the next day. If I run 3 miles it kills me.

I give up on running. Never again.

I can bike more than that too.

I did 250 miles yesterday...was a little sore but not too bad.

You just don't run enough, and you don't know how to run. Pain in the shins comes from running on your toes. So don't do that, you can really mess yourself up.

I used to run and I couldn't bike worth a crap. You use different muscles in different ways. You can do both but you have to practice both. One does not prepare you for the other.

If you're getting that sore from running only 3mi, visit a running store. They'll be able to look at the wear patterns on your current shoes and provide you with a better fit. Secondly, your running gait might have something to do with it. Thats harder to correct though.

Myself, I can run about 7mi on a good day, usually average around 5mi. Even on the 7mi days, I'll barely feel it the next day. My shins might be a little sore, but thats it.

Don't own a bike though, not as easy to zone out listening to music on a bike. Dangerous too.

I don't know. I don't really have any desire to do both. I'd rather just bike and forget about running. The only thing I prefer about running is that you can get in a good cardio workout in less time. I can bike 20 miles in a little over an hour but an hour of running would be a much better cardio workout.

I've never been a good runner though. I don't think I ever will.
