ive got an old k7s5a here and im using the onboard sound. the sound that comes out is amazingly low. i have the speakers cranked to highest and can just barely hear anything. i went to windows volume control and put everything at max. same problem with headphones. any suggestions?

What speakers? You need to use powered speakers if you are connecting to the audio output on your computer.

Try these:

http://www.sis.com/download/download_step1.php?id=155808

I never used the onboard sound much on my k7s5a, but I found this thread on the problem:

http://www.techimo.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-10153.html

According to poster cableguy69:

I had the same prob with my K7S5A mobo. The drivers on the disk didn't work. I downloaded the drivers from the ECS website, that didn't work. Then i went to the SIS (http://www.sis.com) website and downloaded their drivers for the onboard sound. That worked great. The sound isn't the best, but it's not bad either. Forget the drivers from ECS, go straight to the chipset makers site. Good luck!

Absolutely correct! The built in sound driver provided by ECS sucks at best. Use the one from Sis. Or use an add-in card better yet.

Ive owned an ECS K7S5A board believe me when I tell you just shop around and spend about 15-20 bucks get a add on Soundcard dont use the onboard its horrible. You will see an extreme change in sound and big difference. You can find people selling 5.1 cards for cheap :)

Then it's time to get a used card at the For Sale Forum. You can get one as low as $10.00!
