I can’t set HDTV to native resolution when computer is hooked up

Long story short – no matter what res I choose, texts is blurry, and looks like it’s being scaled.

I have an Auria 56” HDTV (LCD I think, not plasma if that makes a difference). I have had my computer hooked up to it for a while, and to me it’s always looked slightly “off”

The first computer I hooked up to it didn’t have this problem. It was an old AMD CPU, with an 8800GT. I set it to 1920x1080, and then just set it to 60hz and it looked beautiful. As crisp as my 1080p 23” monitor. (was hooked up with a DVI to HDMI cable btw)

Now I go to plug in my newer computer (Q6600, 560ti) and immediately it is screwed up. I go to set it at 1920x1080, and for some reason it thinks that the screen is bigger than it actually is – the last 5 inches on each side hangs off the screen so its unusable. I messed around with just changing resolutions back and forth and finally it realizes where the end of the screen is, and it can set 1920x1080 without having anything hanging off the screen. Now the problem is that everything looks blurry, like its being scaled. In the past Ive tried immediately resizing the desktop, and actually thought I had it looking better set at 1810x1014 or something like that, but after hooking up the old computer again, I realized how much better it looks @ 1080p (perfect 1:1 crispness)

I’ve had problems with HDTV’s in the past as far as setting up the correct res goes, but this doesn’t make much sense to me. Why can I get it with an 8800gt and not a 560ti? Both are using the same driver version, running the same OS, etc etc etc. The only difference so far is that the 8800gt is hooked up with a DVI to HDMI cable, and the 560ti uses a mini HDMI to HDMI converter (so I can get sound).

Im sure someone out there has experienced this issue. Any advice on how to get this working correctly?

What you're experiencing is overscan. There should be something in the nvidia control panel to set overscan to 0%. With my AMD card (4550), it defaults to 15%, which puts several inches of black space around the picture. Setting this to 0% should solve your problem.

If you set it to 0% and the picture isn't perfect, then you might have a setting off on your TV. But you can post a follow-up question if that's the case.

I don't have any nvidia cards right now, but it looks like you might want to choose the setting "do not scale": http://nvidia.helpmax.net/en/display/display-scaling/reference/change-display-scaling/

Or the problem could be at the TV end of things...

Look for a button called "zoom" or "aspect". Your TV might be zoomed in too far...

Look for a setting like "full" instead of "zoom" or whatever your TV calls it.
