It's probably not the truck driver's fault. Sounds like you were in his blind spot.

Good thing you weren't an idiot and try to accelerate past him.

He was in the right lane??

IIRC, a solid white line doesn't mean "don't cross this"..it's basically cross w/caution. Double white = do not cross.

Its better then when i was cruising down an off ramp at like 45 and saw a guy pass me going the opposite way. ON THE OFF RAMP!

In Texas Solid white line means No Crossing.

Anyways, I've been in that situation, but the truck swerved and pinned the car i was in under it's trailer and dragged us about half a mile.

What screen resolution and font size you running? At 640x480 and 72pt font, that's really not that close. 😉

Yes. Probably in the truck driver's blind spot. See the graphic at the top of this page.

Also, many trucks require 2 lanes when turning, depending on the sharpness of the turn. That why they have the notices on the rear of the trailers advising drivers to NOT pull up on the right side of a truck that's turning.

The majority of the Truck vs. car accidents are caused by idiot car drivers.

Not to disagree with your last statement, but it's still the truck drivers responsibility to know if somebody is in their blind spot by paying attention to who is overtaking them or getting passed by them. Argo said he was near the back of the trailer which isn't in the blindspot anyway. And if it was an off-ramp, I doubt they needed > 1 lane to make the turn.

I was on the left side of the trailer (it was left exit). Either way, there was no excuse for him to jump into the exit lane so close to the exit. Something like that is pretty dangerous in a car, let alone 20,000 pound death machine.

I had an 18-wheeler run me off the road once...and no, I was not sitting in his blind spot. I was out ahead of the idiot; but he was bound and determined to get around me. We got to a stretch of the highway that narrowed from 3 lanes each way to one lane each because of construction, and he was driving in the lane that was cut off. There were signs for miles before we got to the narrow part, so there was no way he couldn't have seen it coming. All the same, he didn't bother to get over until the lane ended, at which point he stood on the gas. I had started slowing down because there was a curve and a hill coming up, so he closed the distance in no time flat - and ran me right off the d@mn road and into the grass. fortunately I stil had my truck back then, so a little off-roading didn't hurt anything...but that was not the way I wanted to do it.

If a truck requires 2 lanes to make a turn you damn well better believe I'm not giving him my lane. If a vehicle cannot properly maintain his or her lane then the damn truck doesn't need to be on the road. put the cargo on a damn railroad where it freakin belongs. I don't care if it will cost us more in the end for goods, it'll save alot of lives.
