Cingular sold me when they offered to sell me a one-year service plan with a free phones, courtisy of two Best Buy mail-in rebates per phone. I bought two, one for me and one for my girl.

Alls good, until I found out that 100 dollars worth of rebates wouldn't work. Why, because I don't live in New York.

Since they sold me on the rebates they decided to credit the hundred dollars to me anyway.

Fast-forward to 6 months later, still no hundred dollars. A supervisor keeps jerking me around saying that the amount was credited when I know it wasn't. Each an everytime, even with proof. Amazing.

That's not all the perks of being a Cingular customer. Paying online is such a b*tch. I was having trouble paying online, because my check card transactions didn't show a payment, even though I did pay. It wasn't a problem with the bank, so I called Cingular and after 30 minutes of them bullsh*ting and transfers around the entire freaking phone network, they say they can't help me. Call us back tomorrow they said.

So you know your Cingular customer service is working hard to make sure you aren't inconvenienced.

Another perk is frequent disconnects with full signal bars. WTF is up with that. I'm talking on the phone one second and then the next no more.

Cingular clearly has bad customer service as well as bad network connections. Can't wait till the plan ends.

Only thing is who else? Cingular bought out AT&T's GSM network. I don't think T-mobile will be better than Cingular.

Yeah, my phone has been cutting out lately too, with a full/strong signal, it seems to almost instantly redial the number and reconnect you, but it is really annoying.
Maybe this is just a plot to try to waste more of your minutes, as it probably charges you a full extra minute for each time it cuts out and redials....
Yes, I am on cingular.

Wireless carriers rank among the worst of the industries in customer service. Cingular never gets anything right the first time, but fortunately they usually get it done the second time I call them.

Just switch to Verizon and be done with it. I was on Cingular, then AT&T, they both sucked out loud. Switched to Verizon, couldn't be happier. I can count the number of dropped calls I've had since I joined on one hand with Verizon (almost a year). With AT&T, that one hand was half a day.

The problem I have is that both my wife and my parents live in the UP (which would be translated as Michigan's beautiful, yet deserted, Upper Peninsula).

Nextel and T Mobile both have no presence there. Sprint is shaky, as is either Verizon or Cingular if I remember other people's descriptions correctly.

Oh well, my Nextel dies on the 11th of October, and after that we won't have a cell phone for awhile.

EDIT:

I currently live down by Detroit, but with at least 2 trips at least a week long up north every year, having a working cell phone for them would be nice. Especially in the UP where you can be a long way from civilization when a deer/snowbank/drunk snowmobiler jumps out in front of you and you end up stuck somewhere.

Hasn't happened to me yet, but that just means it will.

They gave me the same line of crap about the $100 rebate when my wife and I switched over from AT&T about 8 months ago. We never got a rebate.

Their service sucks ass too. I'm lucky if I can use the phone at all at my home and there are many dead spots around where I live. AT&T was no better though. I'm convinced they all use the same cell towers and equipment anyway.

Cingular sucks. I will be cancelling my service with them as soon as my contract expires.

we are one of the few countries where cellphone companies own our ass with a contract. almost everywhere else, if you you don't like company A, you throw out thier SIM card, sign up with company B who gives you a new SIM card and you're set.

.

This is if you can even get connected in the first place. My wife and I share a plan and 80% of the time it takes 3-4 calls to connect.

T-mobile CS isn't any better. Verizon is probalby the best but their phone is freakin expensive. And they don't sell thru many dealers such as amazon. You have to buy directly from them.

well, when I first signed up for Cingular(and my phone was a V60i)...was supposed to get $100 rebate, but ended up with $50 in check from Cingular, and nada.

Was jerking around by Cingular rep with all different numbers...

But, in my house, only Cingular(or Tmobile, but their charge on cellphone is so expensive that I gave up) can still be used(Verizon, SprintPCS, AT&T TDMA & GSM, even NexTEL are all dead...)...so no choice.

And the next time I renewal my contract, I waited and waited and picked a phone FREE, without any rebate.

And just couple week ago I renewal my contract through Cingular.com...LG L1400...free phone...no rebate hassle.

Just don't bother for rebate..>I mean, if I see anything, even at a cheap price, that requires a rebate, I just wouldn't go for it...this doesn't limit to cellphone.

As for Cingular bill...Fortunately I've never got any trouble...since I've never went over my minute usage(heck, got almost 3000 minutes in RollOver that I just don't know what to do).

CDMA is the superior standard.
Verizon is the superior company.
But all the CDMA phones available suck donkeyballs because CDMA doesn't natively allow retards with CAD software to design a phone that functions.

Personally I've never had a problem with T-mobile's CS, and their local store has an incredibly hot girl working there so whenever I'm inconvenienced to go, it's really not THAT bad. :D

Meh, never had a problem with Cingular. I'm looking forward to all the AT&T sites becoming ours, as well. Service ++, even though Cingular already roams on AT&T or T-Mobile in most markets.

And GSM > CDMA until next generation.
