I burned over an already burned CD-R.....weird

I just bought a rebadged AOpen 24X CD-RW w/ Justlink(burnproof). I was burning some files and, by accident, I put in a CD-R that was already used (the session was closed on my old 12X Lite-On). I used Nero 5.5 and it just burned like nothing was wrong. I didn't notice until I ejected the CD that it was an already used CD-R! I popped it back in and checked it out....all the old stuff is gone and the new stuff is there?

I've never done anything like this before. Is this common?

BTW, it was a Sony 700MB CD-R. Taiyo Yuden, I think. Same color as my FujiFilm TY's, at least...

Could be that the CD-R that you burned (The first time around) was set to Multisession (meaning once you finish burning, you can continue to burn and put more data onto the cd). But for some odd reason, instead of burning from where the Multisession was last left off, it burned all over again.

Does the data you burned over on the CD-R, still work?

Yeah, the new data seems fine. I'm pretty sure it wasn't set to Multisession. Even so, wouldn't it just continue from the empty space? Just wish I could recover the old data :( I doubt it, though....

Ok, it turns out it was a multisession CD.

When I put the CD in w/ Nero, I can see two "Tracks". One is the old stuff and the other is the new stuff. However, the details only show the new files.....anyone know how I can access the older stuff?

Help!

You must have chosen to create a new session, instead of continuing from an old session. The table of contents is always re-written when you burn a new session, and with the options you selected, the TOC didnt include the old files. I'm not sure if there is a way to recover them... You could always burn a new session, adding a few files, and when Nero asks you, choose to continue from an existing session, and choose the first one. When it finishes burning, the TOC should include the old files, but probably wouldnt include the ones from the 2nd session...

I think using CDRWin you can rip just one of the tracks to the harddrive, then you could reburn it onto another CDR. I'm remembering this from about 2 years ago though, so I might be wrong.

Good luck.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I'll try both out. The 2nd session info isn't as important as the old stuff, so I'm not worried about it.
