I built a GTO2, A64 based system.

Hello, I'm new to anantech forums.

Just recently I finished building a system. the main specs are:

DFI NF4 Ultra-D
Athlon 64 3200+ Venice
Sapphire GTO2 Limited Ed. 😉
OCZ Value Winbond 1gb DDR400

I've successfully Moded the GTO2 to 16pipelines and overclocked it to XTPE speeds. I feel that it has more in it, but the card get's very very hot as it is. I will go higher when I get Arctic Cooling for it.

As for the CPU I've made it stable to 10x240 = 2.4ghz. The temps is 38C degrees under full load, cooled by an XP-120.

Any questions or thoughts for a new member? Any suggestions for increasing my cpu overclock?

Depends on the voltage it took to get 2.4ghz, I'd sugget toping out w/ 1.55V w/ air and using a divider on the memory and see how far you can go... w/ an XP120 and decent fan you shouldn't really have to worry about temps unless you really push the voltage.

Thanks for the reply guys.

Yea I was hopeing for much more than 2.4ghz. My last cpu was a axp 1700+, so I'm a little bit out of it. I'm learning quick though.

No matter what I try I can't hit 2.5ghz. I've topped out the voltage at 1.55v, lower the memory divider to ddr333, lowered the ldt multiplier as low as 3X. It still stops at boot-up, asking for random missing files (false error).

At what point does the NF4 chipset need voltage adjustment?

Any other suggestions?

Damn, even my Newcastle 3200+ does 2.5GHz. I thought Venices were supposed to be much more overclockable.

what's your overlock with the GTO2 and what temps (with stock cooler). I would like to compare it to mine...

My GTO2 is stable at 540mhz core and 590mhz memory. That equals a x850xt platinum edition. However at these speeds the memory is very very hot and I need to set the fan on high to keep the core below 70 degrees. I haven't even bothered trying for higher mhz because of the heat, but I'd suspect it has more left in it. I'll get some arctic cooling when I have extra cash again. This system already emptied out my not so deep wallet.

As for the CPU, I now have it stable at 10x250= 2.5ghz. 10 hour prime95 test proved successful. However I still can't seem to get 2.6ghz stable while still keeping below 1.65vcore. I have the HTT and RAM set slightly BELOW spec, so they shouldn't be a factor. My temps hover around 44C degrees when at 1.65v. Could this be holding me back? It doesn't seem that high to me. Panaflo L1A 120mm is cooling the XP-120.

Any suggestions? Most ppl seem to get at least 2.6ghz at reasonable vcore.

i doubt your GTO2 can go much higher.....best way to test it is just do the "scan for highest clock/memory" using ati tool.

I have an Athlon 64 3000+ Winny
4x512 2x patriot value 2x geil value w/ heat spreaders

How can i overclock my system? no matter wut i do w/ configurations the pc always freezes...even if i take the fsb up by 1

lock your pci/agp frequencies and lower your HTT multiplier

Yeah my A64 Venice E3 3200+ tops out at 2.63GHz with stock voltage (cant remember if i had 1.4 or 1.5 on it). Havent really tested futher -- but i'm happy with 2.6 🙂

Well after further testing, it looks like I'm stuck. 2.5ghz @ 1.5v. I can't get stable at 2.6ghz even with voltages up to 1.65v. I'm gonna keep reading around the internet, however it looks like I'm out of ideas.

I guess i just bought a crappy cpu. Further suggestions are still very welcome.

What was the stepping/week/etc (all the numbers/letters on the top of the CPU)
Look for something like:
ADA3200DAA4BP
LBBLE0520DPMW
Its that second line that can tell ya if its a good one or not

yeah, i've got a 3200+ e3 as well. Doesn't want to go past 2.6. Kind of sad... i was expecting a lot more.
