You guys know what i'm talking about??? Like when you want to attach the heatsink to the mobo, you gotta use that metal bar to latch the heatsink onto the mobp. Well i broke one of the two pieces that the heatsink latches onto....anyone know a good solution as to how i could get the heatsink to latch on now...or is duck tape my only resolve???

Thanks..

I am afraid that duct tape will not cut it. Not enough pressure on the heatsink. The only way I know is to use some thermal Epoxy, mix in a little arctic silver so you may be able to get it off at a later later. Some sockets have other little latch things that will allow you to use a 3 prong heatsink clamp.

Get a 3-prong heatsink. The AX-7 is a good choice if it will fit your motherboard. There are others as well.

You could get a heatsink like the alpha pal8045 that uses the motherboard holes to mount the hsf instead of the clips.

I had that happen with a AMD SuperSocket 7 mobo. I simply removed the CPU from the socket (it secures itself with a locking lever) and permanently bonded the heat sink to the CPU using thermally conductive epoxy cement (it had copper powder mixed with it. It was better than ever, and the CPU locking lever held everything in place. The computer is still running today after 4 years.
