I'm thinking now would be a good time to upgrade to Gigabit ethernet, you can get a 5 port 10/100/1000
switch for +/- $80.

Oh, and don't RAID those drives, RAID has a very slim or even NEGATIVE performance impact for gaming/home use. See Anandtech proper for more information.

I've read that article, and it's wrong. In my experience RAID-0 greatly decreases load times for everything from programs, to graphics, to movies, to games.

I can immediately tell the difference between a RAID-0 set up and single drive just from Windows load time and initial program load times. The RAID-0 machine just feels snappier in HD intensive tasks.

And the "danger" is WAY over hyped. If the chance of one drive failing is .001% then doubling that simply makes it .002%.

Oh, and in the 6 years I've been running RAID-0 arrays on multiple machines, I've never had a failure.

For some reason, there is a strong anti-RAID-0 movement out there. I have no idea why when the positive effects are IMMEDIATELY noticeable.

I'm building a new system for my wife for Christimas. I've bought from Newegg many times before, and some parts are coming from Newegg but I really shopped around this time and saved.

Newegg is great but there are better deals on the exact same equipment. Utilize Pricewatech,Pricegrabber --watch closely for limited time offers and compare apples to apples. About 25% came from Newegg, the rest is spread around 5 or 6 other resellers. I also rely heavily on Reseller Ratings before I buy from anyone.

i agree

edit: but i never compared raiding raptor drives . I believe raid-0 of regular 7200 drives has a real world improvement compared to a single 7200 eide drive

Crap! I forgot to add my office as a ship to address on my credit card, newegg couldn't verify.

Got that taken care of, now I just have to call newegg tomorrow and tell them to verify again.
