I broke a $2,000 plate yesterday

I was over at my grandpa's house and I was trying to get some plasticware that was sitting in this plate that was on top of the refrigerator. The plate slipped out of my hands, fell to the ground and shattered. My mom said it was a very valuable plate, and we looked up similar plates online, from the same artist and they go for $2,000+. I feel like such a fool. 🙁

WTF was it?

A plate that was hand made by a famous artist. I dunno their name. My grandpa has all kinds of stuff like that laying around his house. He has a hand crafted wooden table that's worth something like $50,000 also.

Well.. somewhere up high that youd be reaching into like that isnt the best place for a plate of such value.. should have been in a display cabinet.. not sittin on the fridge 😛 jmho 🙂

Edit: Though it does suck that it broke.

Damn, and I thought I was bad for having lost some ~$100 items (a watch and my TI-89). Losing/breaking an antique would just kill me (e.g. my violin).

Sorry it got broken but if they are well off enough to have a $50K table and $2K
plates just laying around it sounds like they can afford the loss 🙂

yeah seriously... what's a $2000 plate doing up on top of the fridge?

How long is it going to take for you to replace it?

A long time. My grandfather was kind enough to discharge me of any obligation, although I would like to re-pay him someday.

According to my mom no one in the house knew that it was worth $2,000. There are several nurses in the house 24/7 to care for my grandma who is in a coma, and they probably thought it was just a regular plate.

because that is the best place to hide it from kids who like to touch things.

Your grandfather isn't very smart for having valuable rare china sitting on top of his fridge.
