I break a pair of headphones every month. Is there a way to fix it?

I don't know why but I go through headphoens like it's nobody's business. I always lose audio in one ear and the only way to get sound is to use my finger to orient the connector in a certain way. Is there a way to fix these headphones?

Stop straining the poor strain relief so much, and don't pick up the headphones by the cord.

Get a pair of Koss. They've replaced my set of 8 year old Porta Pros twice now gratis.
Kick ass company!

Lots of Sennheisers have a detachable 3.5mm jack on the headphones itself so if you step on the cord and stand up it will just come undone instead of ruining the wire. Also they come with a 2 year warranty.

I keep rolling over my cables, and crap too its annoying as hell. Now sound only comes out of both when it wants to. Fuck it.

Stop buying ear buds? Seriously I haven't had a pair of ear buds that's lasted more than 3 or 4 months. As a rule though solid headphones last much longer. My current pair of "cheap" ( < $60) Sennheisers has lasted me quite a while despite taking more than a little bit of abuse.

i had a pair of icemat siberias that have been with me through approx 5 complete breakings.

towards the end, they didnt look so pretty anymore.

http://www.manwhoring.com/line...fayd/pics/headset2.jpg

duct tape and popsicle sticks to hold it in shape, and rewired with speaker wire. (what i had available.)

i finally replaced them with a pair of plantronics that i got for like $10. these dont sound as good, but the icemats earpads are completely gone.

i need to find a better set of headphones.

I have the exact same problem. I tend to get headphones that are under $20 and within a year they're busted. Always seems to be at the connector.

If you're listening indoors then go wireless, I was bought a Sony set for Christmas over a decade ago. Owing to living arrangements I didn't use or charge them up for almost three years, when that ended I picked them up and they still had several hours worth of charge. The battery is still good in them, the only thing I've had to replace in that time was the foam ear pads.

My brother is taking his 100$ plus headphones to a jeweler to see if they can solder the connection because it broke. I'm not an audiophile so I don't know the company, I just know they are called Super Fi?

EDIT: I remember, Ultimate Ears Super Fi. Something like 150-200$ new?

The connections in them aren't exactly huge. Only place that we know within 75 miles that will work on microelectronics. We have a soldering iron, but when the tip itself is 3 times larger than the entire piece you're trying to put back together, that doesn't exactly make it workable.

Unless you care about sound quality. While I can definitely see a point in the not too distant future where its different, wireless headphones have offered subpar sound quality. Having to stick an amplifier, battery, wireless receiver (so possibly a DAC as well), and trying to not make it too heavy and enough battery life that its not pointless has caused significant sound quality shortomings.

A jeweler is actually a great idea, they'd have experience working on small parts, and they should have excellent craftsmanship as thats about the only thing that matters for what they're doing.

If you're snagging the cable of your IEMs/earbuds, I'd suggest getting a plastic alligator clip or two so that you can get it to hold to your clothing. It should also help reduce microphonics.

Get a pair of Beyer DT 770's, damn thing is a tank. I've dropped them from 3-4 feet sometimes, drop them on my desk, leave them on monitors and stuff and they're still working perfectly.

What connection needs to be soldered?

The wires that connect to the clear plastic connector that the break away wires connect to. Apparently his gf had some accident with them, the wires didn't break out of the connector as they were supposed to, and instead pulled free from a wire on the opposite side of the connector into the monitor.

I agree, particularly with mobile (cell) phone radio noise blips, but I was thinking that the OP had issues with cables. There's always a compromise.
