alarm bells should be ringing. I live in canada and the only people who can ask you for your social insurance number (canadian SSN) is pretty much the government, banks and employers (for tax purposes). If you bought some crap online, there is no reason for them to demand your SSN.

The land of race car ya-yas
The land where you can't change lanes
The land where large fuzzy dice
Still hang proudly

ACTUALLY, I deal with customs on a regular basis (daily) with shipping to the states. And in order to get it through customs as a Sale, not a gift, it's required that you provide a federal Tax id# or a SSN if you are an individual on the receiving end.

I'll see if maybe i can find a link for you to verify it. But This started October 1, 2004.

One of our Custom Brokers we use. Field 1, last line.

I called up my credit card company and they confirmed that different companies have different polices, so it wouldnt be unsual if they requested my social security number to verify my credit card.

TwinkleToes77, thanks for the link. That was very informative. Ill feel a little bit better when I order my stuff tommorow then.

It is illigal for employers to even ask for it. Only once you get the job, for tax perposes are they allowed to have it.

I smell identity theft.
