It was on sale here for $3.00 for a 1kg jar so I thought I would check it out.

Being diabetic, peanut butter is a nice treat. Planters PB (I bought the crunchy version) has 3 grams of carbs and 1 gram of fiber meaning 2 net grams of carbs per tablespoon. Sodium levels are 70 mg per tablespoon.

It has a very nice flavour. I may buy a few more jars to stock up.

:)

Made From Roasted Peanuts And Sugar, Contains 2% Or Less Of: Molasses, Fully Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils (Rapeseed And Soybean), Mono And Diglycerides, Salt.

It's the diglycerides that give it the special taste.

I've noticed that the peanut butter is labeled as "peanut butter" which contains peanuts and sometimes salt or labeled as "peanut butter spread" which can contain pretty much anything. I opt for the peanut butter.

The US has laws regarding peanut content. If peanut content is at least 90% it can be called peanut butter and if less than that it is called peanut butter spread.

You know what is really weird? Regular Jif is properly called "Peanut Butter."
But Jif Natural? No, that's Peanut Butter Spread, and specifically says contains 90% peanuts.

Weirdest damn thing.

Most "natural" PBs actually do say strictly "Peanut Butter." I think Jif had to add a ton of Palm OIl to get the same consistency with the production method they use. Must say something about the production methods of other companies when they can still achieve a similar consistency without resorting to adding a ton of oil. Still so weird that somehow Jif's method is that much different between the "Natural" and regular lines.

Mass market shenanigans. They try to imply it's pure peanut butter by putting "natural" in the label(Hey! Plutonium's natural too!), but it only has 90% peanuts?! If I buy peanutbutter, the only ingredient is peanuts(They even tell me twice. Contains Peanuts(Thanks guys!)), and maybe salt

Does your grocery store have a bulk nut isle? Kroger has been installing peanut butter grinders where you can make fresh peanut butter for $2.99. I'm a low-carber myself!

I haven't seen one of those since the 80's. I guess a food processor will work.

This is kind of nice though- has a smooth or chunky setting, it dispenses into a 1lb plastic container, and there's nothing to clean :)
I would be worried about the cleanness of the machine. Who cleans the machine?

whaaaat?! damn that's awesome. I haven't come across that yet. Honestly I'm curious how long that might last. Or is it typical for folks with severe allergies to just not go grocery shopping? Grinding up peanuts right there in an aisle? I never imagined seeing something like that for that reason alone and of course other reasons.
I'd definitely try it out while it exists. They've been re-arranging the store I go to most often but I don't recall seeing a bulk nut aisle yet.

Is this only at the Marketplace model stores?

They seem to be at all three of our local Kroger's (they're all the newer style stores that sell clothes and things too though). Right next to it is a machine for almond butter.

Is "fancy molasses" the Canadian version of calling someone "fancy pants?"
LOL

Fancy molasses is made from the first boil and also called first syrup. The second boil is called robust or Cooking molasses. The third is called blackstrap molasses.
