That amp should be fine for practice, but once you move into the world of pure compressed tube saturation, you don't go back.
 
You really can't go wrong getting an Epi as an entry-level guitar...CONGRATS!

I have a Gibson Les Paul (2 of them...a Standard and a Custom) and love them to death.

Eventually you'll want to switch up to a Gibson, but that Epi is an extremely good guitar. Have fun!
